Price Hikes in Omsk's Veggie Market: An Unwelcome Spike

Seemingly, the price surge for veggies is intensity driven by seasonal fluctuations.

Apparently, Omsk's veggie market is experiencing a steady rise in prices, with potato prices leading the pack. Over the past week, from April 21-28, 2025, the average kilogram of potato saw a staggering 4.58% increase. By April 28, the price had escalated to an average of 65.65 rubles per kilo, a whopping 22 rubles more expensive compared to its January 1 cost.

Radishes are also showing a steady price climb, surging 7.3% last week, and up 12% the week before that. Now, you'll be shelling out 40.6 rubles per kilo, a 51% price hike since the New Year.

Fresh cabbage jumped 9% last week, costing 60.2 rubles per kilo, a 41% rise from the beginning of the year.

Interestingly, cucumbers and tomatoes, according to analysts, are actually falling in price. Cucumbers dropped 11.8% last week and 26.7% since the start of the year. As of April 28, a kilo of cucumbers goes for an average of 181.67 rubles.

Tomatoes experienced a 9% price drop last week, but still cost 258 rubles per kilo, a 22 ruble increase since January.
