Regensburg's Gelbes Band Initiative Offers Free Fruit Picking

Residents of Regensburg district can now enjoy fresh, free fruits thanks to the Gelbes Band initiative. Over 700 trees along public paths and roads have been marked for picking with yellow bands or rings. This collaborative effort between local organisations aims to prevent fruits waste and encourage local consumption.

The initiative, a joint project of the local gardening association and the county's garden advisory service, allows residents to pick fruits at their own risk. Trees marked with a yellow band in the municipality of Langquaid, as well as other county municipalities, are open for harvesting. Fruits can only be used privately, and pickers must ensure no damage is caused to the trees or their surroundings.

Details of the locations, number of trees, and types of fruits can be found on the Regensburg county homepage. The initiative aims to tackle the annual issue of fruits rotting on trees, making it a win-win situation for both the environment and the community.

With over 700 trees now open for public picking, the Gelbes Band initiative is set to benefit both the environment and local residents. By preventing fruits waste and encouraging local consumption, this collaborative effort is a testament to the power of community involvement in environmental sustainability.
