In the heart of Germany's wine country, the picturesque region of Baden, a new queen was crowned at the Freiburg Wine Festival. Tina Glur, a young woman with a deep connection to the wine industry, was chosen as the 75th Baden Wine Queen, marking the start of her auspicious reign.

The Baden Wine Queen competition, a traditional event steeped in cultural significance, has been a highlight in the region for over seven decades. Each year, a young woman who embodies the charm and values of Baden's wine culture is selected to represent the local industry, promoting its wines at festivals, trade fairs, and in the media both domestically and internationally.

Tina Glur's victory came after a rigorous competition against Hannah Spraul and Laura Münscher. The final test required the candidates to correctly identify a blind-tasted Spätburgunder wine, a challenge Tina Glur met with success due to its pleasant acidity in the finish.

As the Baden Wine Queen, Tina Glur will serve as an ambassador for Baden's wines, educating the public about the region's viticulture and cultural heritage. She is expected to spend an average of 200 days per year on her duties, promoting Baden's wines and fostering regional identity.

The Freiburg Wine Festival, which concluded on Tuesday, officially opened with the new Baden Wine Queen. The Baden Winegrowers' Association also hosted a champagne reception in her honour.

The Baden Wine Queen competition is part of a long-standing tradition in German wine regions, with similar competitions held in the Palatinate and Mosel. The tradition highlights the importance of viticulture to Baden’s economy and cultural identity, emphasizing local pride and the promotion of quality regional wines on a broader stage.

Being elected as the Baden Wine Queen is considered a prestigious honour and can serve as a platform for personal and professional opportunities in the wine and hospitality industries. This year, for the first time, men will also be eligible for election as German Wine Queens, marking a small revolution on the national level, as three German Wine Queens will be sought in the fall.

The first Baden Wine Queen was crowned in 1950, before the establishment of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The tradition continues to thrive, with the Lower Bavarian Erdäpfelkönigin being crowned for 50 years and the Westphalian Honey Queen for 25 years. Other agricultural products also crown queens, such as asparagus spear, hop cone, and potato tuber.

As Tina Glur embarks on her journey as the Baden Wine Queen, she will undoubtedly contribute to the region's rich wine culture, promoting its wines and fostering a sense of pride in Baden's viticultural heritage.

Tina Glur's new role as Baden Wine Queen will see her promote not only the region's wines but also its food-and-drink and home-and-garden offerings as she embodies the charm and values of Baden's cultural heritage. As part of her duties, Tina Glur is expected to spend significant time educating the public about various agricultural products that are celebrated in the region, such as asparagus spear, hop cone, and potato tuber.
