Restored Town Hall Market Pavilions: Ready for New Culinary Experiences
The Rathausmarket Pavilions and Glass Arcades Are Ready for a Refresh!
Get ready to chow down this summer at the renovated Rathausmarket Pavilions and Glass Arcades, located right in front of Hamburg's City Hall. Five gastronomic businesses are set to open, with an array of delicious offerings that will surely satisfy your cravings.
BB-Express Buffet, the only existing tenant, will reopen its doors after a brief hiatus. Established back in 1945, it's celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Joining them are a new Italian bistro, a wine bar, desserts from The Crumble Bar, and a new spot for Pony-Sylt-Chef Tim Becker's signature dish, "Rundstück warm" (meat with gravy).
Over 130 interested parties applied for the Pavilions, with the handover to the chosen tenants scheduled for June. The individual pavilions will open as their respective tenant's renovation work is completed throughout the summer.
Sumptuous Renovation of the Rathausmarket Pavilions
The Rathausmarket Pavilions underwent a careful modernization of their technical infrastructure, preserving their historic charm. This included installing new energy-efficient heating systems, upgrading fire safety measures, and renovating the bathroom facilities. The Pavilions were also gutted and repainted.
Dr. Andreas Dressel, Hamburg's Finance Senator, described the €1.85 million renovation of the Pavilions and Arcades as "lavish." The project also included the restoration of the 1982-built Glass Arcades. To reduce future maintenance needs, additional repairs were made to the underlying structures, and all glass panels were replaced. In keeping with traditional craftsmanship, a small glassblowing workshop created 3,660 new glass panels.
Responsible for the renovation was the city-owned property management company Sprinkenhof GmbH.
