Restyled Historical Clock Tower in Düsseldorf's Old Town
In the heart of Düsseldorf, Germany, a unique art project has taken residence on the historical clock tower at Grafenberg Allee 300. The installation, titled "Don't Panic," is an artistic masterpiece that has transformed the once-quiet tower into a vibrant beacon of creativity.
The brainchild of artists Meral Alma, Professor Dr. Gisela Miller-Kipp, and Baas Rolf Lenz, "Don't Panic" was conceived over coffee and cake, as the trio envisioned a way to create a captivating art experience around and inside the clock tower.
The artwork consists of approximately 500 sticky notes, each measuring around 110 square meters and reaching a height of 14 meters. The notes, in various colours, are strategically placed onto the facade of the clock tower, creating a visually stunning display that enhances the unique architecture of the tower.
Inside the tower, visitors can enjoy works from Meral Alma's studio, offering a more intimate and immersive art experience.
The Bürgergesellschaft Alde Düsseldorf, who use the historical facade for art exhibitions among other things, are hosting the exhibition. The opening event, attended by nearly 150 guests, was a celebration of art and community spirit.
The clock tower, originally the gatekeeper's house for the Haniel & Lueg company, now stands as a remnant of the past, reimagined for the present. Despite the occasional rainy weather, the good spirits were not dampened, thanks to the excellent catering by the hosts.
Rain and wind may intentionally loosen some fragments of the artwork, adding an element of change and evolution to the installation. Rest assured, the artwork will be removed without leaving any residue.
The "Don't Panic" project is a temporary installation, scheduled to end in December 2025. Visitors can view the installation every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm until July 26, 2025.
