Revamped playgrounds: Contributing modern, inclusive, and diverse play areas for children's enjoyment

In the vibrant town of Gütersloh, four playgrounds have undergone a significant transformation as part of a comprehensive renovation project. The playgrounds in Münstermannsweg, Kuckucksweg, Anna-Voß-Straße, and Birkhuhnweg have been revamped, providing a fresh and inclusive play experience for children of all ages and abilities.

The renovated playground in the town centre of Friedrichsdorf, Kuckucksweg, has been a popular spot since its opening at the end of 2024. The play area combines modern, colorful equipment with natural wooden elements, considering sustainability. A climbing mikado complements the existing climbing wall, and other rocks, ramps, and the existing slide complete the play experience. New tree and shrub plantings structure the entire playground, adding a touch of greenery and enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Münstermannsweg playground, another recipient of the renovation, offers a diverse play area for children aged 3-12. Highlights include a Tampenschwinger (multi-seat swing), a large sand play area with houses, baking table, sensory play panels, a standing seesaw, a spring rocker, a balance beam, a central play area with speaking tubes, and a climbing path. Additional shrubs are planned to be added in the fall to further enhance natural play.

At Anna-Voß-Straße playground, smaller measures have been implemented, including the replacement of play equipment and changes to improve accessibility. A newly planted fence installation is intended to prevent dogs from entering, and new paths improve accessibility. A spring boat in the style of the already renewed pirate installation expands the offer.

The Birkhuhnweg playground underwent a major redesign, featuring an appealing U3 offering: a wheelchair-accessible playhouse, a terrain vehicle with a gas station, and other inclusive elements. New paths and a tactile guide strip have been added to enhance accessibility.

Christian Scheipers, Fachbereichsleiter (department head) involved in playground planning in the municipality of Ascheberg, oversaw the planning and building of these playgrounds. The renovated Münstermannsweg playground was rebuilt from April to May 2025, after intensive planning and tendering.

September 2025 marks the completion of this ambitious project, providing a safer, more inclusive, and sustainable play environment for the children of Gütersloh. The renovated playgrounds, with their array of attractions and features, are set to bring joy and excitement to many more years of playtime.
