Rural landscape transformation: Education displaces traditional school setting
The Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, a central funding organisation for the city's cultural and creative industries, has taken a significant step forward in expanding its influence with a new project at the Alte Schule in Seilerstraße, St. Pauli.
The organisation, established 15 years ago to support Hamburg's vibrant creative sector, has rented the historic Alte Schule, a landmark building constructed around 1888 and protected as a cultural monument. The building, located at Seilerstraße 41-43, will now serve as a hub for creative and cultural activities.
The four-story brick building offers around 2300 square meters of office space, an old gymnasium, and a green inner courtyard. More than 50 creatives are expected to move in this summer, with plans for studios, workshops, rehearsal rooms, and studios for designers, musicians, artists, and other creatives.
Culture Senator Carsten Brosda believes the new location will become a new engine room of the creative industry through mutual exchange. Finance Senator Andreas Dressel praised the project as a strong perspective for the object at the heart of St. Pauli.
The Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft aims to culturally animate the quarter while preserving historical substance. The organisation's purpose is to foster creativity and innovation within Hamburg's cultural and creative industries, contributing to the city's creative economy.
With the first tenants set to move in this summer, the Alte Schule in Seilerstraße is set to become a centre of artistic production and interdisciplinary exchange, further enriching Hamburg's already vibrant cultural landscape.
The Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft, in their pursuit to foster creativity and innovation, is transforming the Alte Schule into a creative and cultural hub, which will cater to diverse fields such as interior-design, lifestyle, fashion-and-beauty, and home-and-garden. This strategic location is expected to stimulate mutual exchange and contribute significantly to the evolving fashion, art, and design culture of St. Pauli.
