Rustic Finger Food Innovation: The Pizza Burger Combination

Food blogger Anja Würfl has come up with a surprising yet delightful recipe that combines the best of both worlds - the pizza and the burger. The pizza burger, as she describes, is a perfect dish for relaxed evenings with friends, surprising visually and satisfying in taste.

The Recipe

To make this unique fusion dish, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground beef (80% lean / 20% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • ½ cup of marinara sauce
  • 4 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • 8-12 thin slices of pepperoni

The instructions are simple:

  1. Mix the ground beef with Italian seasoning, form into 4 patties, and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Grill the patties over medium-high heat for about 4 minutes per side until cooked to 160°F internal temperature.
  3. Toast the hamburger buns lightly.
  4. Place a cooked patty on each bun; top with marinara sauce, a slice of mozzarella, and 2-3 slices of pepperoni.
  5. Return burgers to the grill or place under a broiler just until the cheese melts. Serve immediately.

A Twist on the Classic

For those seeking a bit more adventure, additional variations include mixing chopped pepperoni and garlic into the beef patty itself, serving open-faced with garlic bread or ciabatta buns, and using a tomato-based sauce with herbs and red wine for a gourmet twist. Fresh basil can also be added as a topping for extra flavour.

Preparing the Pizza Burger

The pizza burger is baked on a preheated grill at 200°C with indirect heat. After baking, the bun halves are put together to form the pizza burger. The dish is baked for about 10 minutes with the lid closed.

The pizza burger is topped with fruity tomato ketchup, melted mozzarella, and Mediterranean ingredients such as mini salami, olives, and cherry tomatoes. This simple recipe combines the savory flavors of a burger with the classic toppings of a pizza, ready in about 30 minutes.

A Unique Grill Idea

Food blogger Anja Würfl has created a new grill idea with the pizza burger. The dish looks like a burger but tastes like pizza, or vice versa. The pizza burger is served by putting the halves together. This innovative recipe is sure to impress your friends and family at your next barbecue.
