Sought Portugal Residency Permit - Seeker of Portuguese Residential Permit

Nicole Kidman, the acclaimed actress and wife of country musician Keith Urban, has officially applied for residency in Portugal, signaling a potential move to spend more time in Europe.

The application for residency was submitted to the AIMA ("Agência para a Integração, Migração e Asilo" or "Office for Integration, Migration and Asylum") in Portugal, and Kidman is reportedly pursuing the Golden Visa program, which grants long-term residence visas to foreign buyers of real estate worth over 500,000 euros in Portugal.

Kidman has been spotted in Cascais, a wealthy suburb near Lisbon, and is reportedly looking for property within a luxury golf club about 130 km south of Lisbon, an area popular with celebrities like George Clooney and Paris Hilton. Kidman already owns a home in Lisbon.

The reasons behind Kidman's Portuguese residency application are not clear, but it seems to be related to lifestyle and investment benefits of the Golden Visa program, the appeal of celebrity-favored areas, and possibly a desire to spend more time in Europe rather than the U.S. There has been speculation that her motivation might be linked to political changes in the U.S. after Donald Trump’s inauguration, reflecting a trend of celebrities seeking residency elsewhere, but this is unconfirmed.

Kidman's husband, Keith Urban, is currently on tour in the US and plans to apply for residency later, depending on his tour schedule. There is no clear indication that the family is moving permanently to Portugal anytime soon.

The actress's current location is Portugal, and she has been in the country since Sunday, July 20. Some sources indicate that they are simply taking initial steps toward residency, not an immediate relocation.

In a recent interview with "Allure" magazine, Kidman opened up about the loss of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away in September 2024. She stated that the loss has significantly affected her and made her more aware of the transience of life.

Reports of a marital crisis due to Kidman's bureaucratic solo move have been circulating in the media, but there is no evidence to support these claims.

Urban is 57 years old, and his tour schedule prevents him from applying for a residency permit in Portugal until October. Kidman expressed that she has more time behind her than ahead of her.
