South County in Anne Arundel County unveiled a new free boat ramp for public use, responding to locals' demands.
Anne Arundel County Opens New Free Public Boat Ramp at Parish Creek Landing Marina
Residents of South County are in for a treat this boating season as Anne Arundel County has partnered with Parish Creek Landing Marina to offer a new free public boat ramp. This initiative comes as a response to the recent closure of the Discovery Village launch site, providing a much-needed alternative for local boaters.
The new boat ramp, now open, will allow more than 100 boaters to launch at no cost during the July Fourth holiday weekend. County Executive Steuart Pittman hailed this partnership as a win for local boaters and a local maritime business. Jessica Leys, Director of the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, expressed her pleasure at finding a short-term solution to keep local boaters connected with nature.
The new boat ramp adds to the County's current network of water amenities, which includes two public boat ramps, 18 car-top launch sites, two indoor swimming pools, and three public beaches. However, it is important to note that this arrangement is a seasonal partnership limited to 2025, addressing immediate access needs but not offering any specific details about long-term solutions beyond this season.
The Discovery Village ramp was closed to public use on July 1, leaving a gap in the community's boating access. The new boat ramp at Parish Creek Landing Marina aims to fill this void, offering free water access to residents for the remainder of the 2025 boating season, which ends in early October.
The Department of Recreation and Parks remains committed to continuing the conversation and working together for a long-term solution to serve the South County residents with comprehensive water access. This partnership with Parish Creek Landing Marina is a step in the right direction, ensuring that local boaters can continue to enjoy the waterways of Anne Arundel County.
With the new boat ramp at Parish Creek Landing Marina providing free access, local boaters can now embrace an outdoor-living lifestyle, exploring the waterways of Anne Arundel County. This development, coupled with the county's home-and-garden amenities, offers residents an enticing lifestyle blend of land and water experiences.
