There's no denying it - abandoned, unregistered vehicles are a major eyesore in Berlin, and they're getting worse by the day, according to B.Z. journalist, Vicky Rewind.
You can spot them almost anywhere: license plate missing, sporting a round yellow sticker in the window, and not exactly in tip-top shape. It's not just Rolandufer that's dealing with these vehicles, either - unregistered cars are a city-wide hassle. A staggering 7,981 derelict cars currently litter Berlin's streets, with the number on the rise. Like trash in the alleyway, unregistered vehicles tend to invite more of the same.
The current laws and fines, of up to 50,000 euros, simply aren't enough to eradicate the problem. The boroughs need to act swiftly and up the costs of removal and storage even higher.
City streets are not junkyards - ownership comes with responsibility!
