Summer's Best Discounts Being Eliminated by Retailers

Target, Amazon, and Walmart Square Off in Summer Sales Events

Summer is heating up with major retailers going head-to-head in sales events. Minneapolis-based Target Corp. [1] has secured the No. 7 spot on Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America, joining Seattle-based Amazon at No. 2 [1] and Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart U.S. in the top position [2].

Last year, Amazon's Prime Day promotion [3] maintained the traditional two-day format but featured improved savings and greater deal quantity, especially in grocery and household sectors. This year, however, the event is taking place from July 8-11, marking the longest summer Prime Day sale to date [4]. A "Today's Big Deals" promotion has been introduced for Prime members, featuring deep savings drops across themes like "Summer Savings" and "Premium Deals."

Deals during Prime Day include up to 25% off beverages from poppi and CELSIUS, 25% off coffee products from Nespresso, up to 30% off Frito-Lay snacks, Prime Hydration and Alani Nu Sports Drinks, and 30% off Dawn Powerwash and Tide evo cleaning products.

Target, meanwhile, is offering savings on all BBQ necessities for Independence Day celebrations, as well as deals on groceries during its "Target Circle Week" event, which runs from July 6 to July 12. Target shoppers can find savings on groceries during the event, with buy-one-get-one-50%-off deals in select items. Target is also offering savings such as 20% off Fourth of July-themed cookies, cupcakes and brownie bites.

Target's "Target Circle Week" event features "Deal of the Day" extra discounts and includes deep savings on summer, back-to-school and college offerings. The event also includes a collaboration with BBQ pitmaster Rodney Scott for Independence Day celebrations, offering savings on Target's Good & Gather offerings.

Walmart is offering deals on first-day essentials for back-to-school shopping, recognizing that families are shopping earlier for the new school year. The sales event includes a variety of products, such as grocery, household, and health and beauty products, and memberships to Walmart+ will be 50% off during the event. School supplies will also be discounted as parents, caregivers, and teachers start stocking up.

Target's offering is not to be outdone, with its "Target Circle Week" event starting earlier than Amazon's and Walmart's campaigns. The event includes a wide range of products, such as groceries, everyday essentials, electronics, apparel, toys, and home décor items.

In summary, the summer sales season is in full swing, with Target, Amazon, and Walmart all offering exciting deals and promotions for consumers. Whether you're stocking up for back-to-school, celebrating Independence Day, or just looking for some summer savings, these retail giants have you covered.
