Summer's perfect friend you didn't realize you were missing: KitchenAid Go Cordless Citrus Juicer

Every summer, I put the season's hottest appliances through their paces, from the top-notch juicers to the crème de la crop of ice cream makers and mobile travel blenders. Last year, a small appliance made a lasting impression - a cordless Cuisinart blender, unexpectedly powerful for its size and ideal for whipping up fresh pestos, herb drizzles, and salsas on the go. I took it everywhere: to barbecues, the beach, and even friends' gardens.

One summer evening, we came together with the fixings for margaritas - booze, limes, and even ice cubes chilling in a cooler - but hit a snag. There were eight of us, only one manual citrus squeezer, and plenty of grumbling. I wished my portable blender could juice.

Fast-forward to this summer, and I found my solution in the KitchenAid Go Cordless Citrus Juicer. I've been using it for a couple of weeks, and it's fulfilled all my outdoor juicing dreams.

Design

If you're expecting the vibrant colors and vintage curves of the finest KitchenAid stand mixers, think again. This juicer is all about function, not form. The device might not be a stunner, but it gets the job done. Inside the box, you'll find a 16 oz reservoir bowl, a single reamer, a stainless steel sieve, a 12V Max rechargeable battery, and a handy USB charging cable.

The KitchenAid Go Cordless Citrus Juicer charges quickly and feels reassuringly solid. It's small and lightweight enough to fit into a weekend bag for a trip to the lakes or a friend's garden party without taking up much space.

Is it easy to use?

Type

I spend a lot of time testing the best cold press juicers, and they can be a bit tricky to master. However, the KitchenAid Go Cordless Citrus Juicer has straightforward controls.

The juicer is ready to use almost out of the box. A quick charge (which doesn't take long), followed by a quick rinse of the parts, and it's ready to start juicing. There's no power button—the reamer starts spinning automatically once you press your citrus fruit onto it.

Test 1: Orange juice

The main test for a citrus juicer is fresh oranges. The KitchenAid made a clean and highly drinkable orange juice without any complications. I tried using a jar to collect the juice at first, but the rim was too wide and caused some spillage. Switching to the built-in reservoir and pouring from the tap once the juice was ready worked much better. The strainer collected all the pulp and seeds for me, leaving behind a refreshing juice.

Weight

Test 2: Grapefruit & lime juice

4.74 kg

It was easy and effortless to juice a large grapefruit, but when I checked my glass of juice, I saw a few tiny seeds floating around. I had to run it through a finer strainer to filter them out. I suspect this may have been a particular type of grapefruit.

Later that day, my partner and I took the juicer out to the garden and made a non-alcoholic Paloma using more fresh grapefruit, lime, and soda water from our cordless Smeg soda maker. Juicing outside was a dream, as I didn't have to head back inside when we needed a refill. I can't wait to have an outdoor kitchen with a drinks-making station, and I'd love to see the KitchenAid cordless juicer as a part of it.

Cleaning

Material

I'm happy to report that the clean-up was relatively painless. The pulp collects neatly and is easily tipped out. Every removable part - the reservoir bowl, reamer, removable handle, and stainless steel sieve - is dishwasher safe. Hand-washing, too, is a breeze with a scrubbing brush. As someone who's spent countless hours scrubbing the corners of cold-press juicers with an old toothbrush, this was a welcome change.

How does it compare?

Row 3 - Cell 2

The Smeg Citrus Juicer is still the best I've ever tested. If you're after a juicer that doubles as a kitchen accessory, Smeg juicers, with their 1950s Italian charm and vibrant colors, fit the bill. They are more expensive, but worth it for their sturdy construction and easy-to-clean design features.

That said, the KitchenAid Go Cordless Electric Juicer is lightweight and portable, making it easier to move around and use in various locations without being tethered to a power source. Plus, it's much more affordable than Smeg's offerings.

What do customer reviews say?

Black or palm green

Reviewers love how the KitchenAid Go Cordless design simplifies juicing large quantities of citrus or prepping family-sized dishes. Many apartment dwellers and those short on kitchen space appreciate its compact design and thorough juicing abilities.

Row 4 - Cell 2

One reviewer stated, "I like not having cords hanging all over the counter as I juice. I already own the KitchenAid Cordless Blender, but now I'm going to save my coins until I can invest in all the KitchenAid Go products. I hope this juicer lasts me for years to come."

It averages 4.7 stars on the KitchenAid site but a measly 3 stars on Amazon.com. This discrepancy may be due to the fact that there are only two reviews. The five-star reviewer suspects that the low rating is from somebody who didn't buy the battery package separately. It serves as an important reminder to purchase the battery bundle directly from KitchenAid to ensure you don't encounter any communication issues with your new cordless juicer.
