Swimming lessons for refugee minors and adolescents
In the heart of Germany, the city of Wiesbaden is taking a significant step towards promoting safety, integration, and well-being for refugee children. A collaborative effort between Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V., the Magistrate, and the City of Wiesbaden, this swimming project aims to teach refugee children and young people to swim.
The Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., known for its commitment to social engagement, views this initiative as a conviction, not a duty. They strive to enable children, regardless of their origin or financial situation, to learn to swim. The city's social and administrative services will ensure the participation of the target group in the swimming project.
Qualified trainers from Wiesbaden Swimming Club will conduct the swimming sessions. The club, which prioritises the integration of refugee people through sport, has already provided a new sporting home for a group of refugee Ukrainian elite swimmers since the outbreak of the Ukraine war. Christoph Eichler, President of Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V., expresses the club's enthusiasm for the initiative from a sporting perspective.
Dr. Patricia Becher, representing the Magistrate and the City of Wiesbaden, stated that the project is important for children and young people who often arrive under difficult conditions. She thanked all those involved for their extraordinary commitment to the swimming project.
The project is funded for ten children by Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., which focuses on education, integration, and equal opportunities within its social engagement framework. An additional ten children will be offered courses without secure external funding.
The first swimming courses for children aged 5 to 8 will start from Saturday, August 30, at the Kleinfeldchen. For those aged 10 to 15, the first courses will begin on Monday, August 25, at the ESWE leisure pool.
The symbolic handover of the swimming project was conducted by Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V. and Wiesbaden Swimming Club 1911 e.V. to Dr. Becher. The project aims to teach refugee children and young people to swim safely, providing them with self-confidence, participation, and joy. It is being conducted with the goal of promoting integration and equal opportunities for refugee children and young people.
Citizens with questions about the swimming project are encouraged to contact the responsible department or office of the State Capital Wiesbaden. The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden is the publisher of this press release.
The Wiesbaden Economic Forum e.V., advocating for equal opportunities, has extended this swimming project to accommodated refugee children, integrating outdoor-living and home-and-garden activities into their lifestyle. This collaborative initiative strives to foster a sense of belonging and well-being for these children by teaching them swimming skills.
