Updated Tour Dates for Zanders Region Exploration
The Zanders-Areal property management has announced a series of weekly tours starting from July 21, 2025. These tours aim to showcase the site's rich history and industrial past.
The tours will offer a choice of four weekly routes, each providing a unique exploration of the future quarter's historical architecture. One of the tours, led by Frank Stugg, the former head of the Zanders factory fire brigade, will delve into the stages of paper production from the perspective of a trained papermaker.
On September 8, 2025, Frank Stugg will lead the "Paper Maker Tour," offering insights into the development of industrial paper production. The tour titled "The Paper Factory and the Zanders Family," led by city guide Roswith Wirtz on September 15, 2025, will explore the development of the family-owned paper factory in the historic rooms of the representative administrative building from 1905.
Another tour, titled "Historical Trace Search - Paper Production at Zanders," led by Dr. Sabine Schachtner on August 4, 2025, will provide valuable insights into the development of industrial paper production. Erich Olpen, who worked as an electrician at the Zanders paper factory for 40 years, will lead the "Path of Coal" tour on July 28, 2025. This tour will follow the path of the energy carrier coal across the site, including the delivery by goods trains and the protected power plant by Dominikus Böhm from 1931.
It's important to note that the tours will lead from the bleaching plant at the core of the site through the Hollander room to various halls that once housed the Zanders paper machines. However, the "Path of Coal" tour does not lead through the bleaching plant, Hollander room, or various halls that once housed the Zanders paper machines.
The tours start every Monday, with the time changing to 15:00 from October 20. The number of participants for the tours is limited, and if the 20 places per date are fully booked, it is possible to register via email ([email protected]) for a waiting list.
Registration for the tours will open on July 11, 2025, at 12:00 PM, and can be done at ourwebsite.de/tours-zanders-site2.aspx. The meeting point for all tours is the porter's lodge at the entrance to the Zanders-Areal.
For the most detailed and current tour schedules and routes, it's best to refer to the official website or contact point for the Project Zanders-Areal Team. Roswith Wirtz is a city guide and not a papermaker, while Dr. Sabine Schachtner and Frank Stugg will not lead the "The Paper Factory and the Zanders Family" or "Path of Coal" tours respectively.
These tours promise to be an enlightening journey into the industrial past of the Zanders-Areal site, offering a unique opportunity to learn about its history and the development of paper production.
These tours, starting from July 21, 2025, not only showcase the site's rich history and industrial past but also provide a glimpse into the future quarter's historical architecture, making it a great opportunity to explore the home-and-garden lifestyle of the Zanders-Areal's past. The "Paper Maker Tour" on September 8, 2025, and the "Historical Trace Search - Paper Production at Zanders" on August 4, 2025, are perfect examples of how the tours will offer insights into the lifestyle and home-and-garden practices of the Zanders-Areal's industrial era.
