Visual Artist: Catrin Große
In the heart of Doberlug-Kirchhain, a new artistic haven has emerged. Last summer, graphic designer Catrin Große moved into a spacious studio, previously occupied by the renowned artist Andreas Rost.
The studio, nestled between Inspiration and the Mosaic cosmos, is a blend of creativity and comfort. It boasts a kitchen, a long wooden table for brainstorming sessions, a record player for musical inspiration, and cosy sofas and a silver candelabra that add a touch of elegance.
Catrin's exhibition room is separated from a cosy living room by a sliding door, creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors. The living room, often filled with laughter and art, serves as a gathering spot for friends who share stories about the eclectic items that adorn the space.
Catrin's sculptures, which are described as graphic designs brought to life rather than traditional sculptures by fellow artists, are dynamic, gleaming, serene, and open to the world. These unique pieces have travelled the globe with Catrin for a decade, as she creates clay figures that serve as unburned moulds.
Intriguingly, Catrin's sculptures were originally found in a Thai foundry for Buddhas. This East-meets-West fusion is evident in her work, which seems to embody a cultural exchange in the creation process.
Model shop owner Barbara Konitz made room for Catrin by reducing her spaces on Görlitzer Straße. Meanwhile, Catrin's partner, Volkmar Voigt, lives in an apartment adjacent to her current studio. Initially, Volkmar had planned to set up his workshop in the studio, but it has since become Catrin's creative sanctuary.
Catrin's journey as an artist began in Dresden, where she honed her skills before finding her home in Doberlug-Kirchhain. The studio, equipped with a record player, a long wooden table, and a Venetian blind, provides the perfect setting for her to continue her artistic exploration.
In the studio, coffee and wine are always available, making it a warm and inviting space for anyone seeking inspiration or simply a place to appreciate art.
