In Rīga, the new cross-country ski track in Uzvaras Park, Pārdaugava, is set to open on December 2, offering equipment rental to make your skiing experience even more enjoyable. Tracks in popular locations such as Ogre (Zilie Kalni), Sports and recreation base "Smeceres sils", Ranka cardboard factory (Rankas kartonfabrika), and Jelgava's Ozolnieki Mežaparks are also ready for skiers. However, it's worth noting that rental services are not yet available at the tracks in Lucavsala, Zaķusala, and Purvciems near the 84th High School.
For those seeking downhill skiing, slopes including Žagarkalns, Ozolkalns, Riekstukalns, Sigulda City Trail, or Reiņa trase are open as of Friday or Saturday. These slopes offer a thrilling experience for both beginners and experienced skiers.
If you're an art lover, be sure to visit the RIXC Gallery (Lenču Street 2) to see the exhibition "Bits and Bytes" by Finnish artist Marko Timlin. The exhibition, which opens on December 1 at 18:00, was opened by curator Inese Zandere. "BITS AND BYTES" is a kinetic sound installation consisting of 104 recycled floppy disk drives, promising an immersive and unique artistic experience. The exhibition will be on display until February 3, 2024, open from Wednesday to Saturday, 12:00-18:00.
To celebrate the holiday season, several Christmas markets are opening across Rīga. The Christmas miracle at the Āgenskalns market opens on December 1 and lasts until December 3. On December 2, the Xmas market at the Kalnciema Square opens, and on December 3, the Old Town Christmas market begins. Each market offers a variety of local goods, food, and entertainment, making them perfect destinations for a festive outing.
Whether you're looking to enjoy winter sports, explore art, or immerse yourself in the holiday spirit, Rīga and Latvia have plenty to offer this season. So bundle up, grab your skis, and get ready for a winter to remember!
