Getting Involved with Quilting for a Cause: Quilt to Give!

Hey there sewing and quilting enthusiasts! Ever wanted to combine your passion for these crafts with something meaningful? Look no further than Quilt to Give, an annual community service project initiated by Nancy Zieman Productions.

This project, while not a year-round endeavor, takes up a significant portion of Nancy Zieman Productions' time! So, if you're keen on using your skills for a good cause, you're in luck.

Deanna Springer, from Nancy Zieman Sewing Studio and Quilt shop in downtown Beaver Dam, sheds some light on this incredible project, "Quilters love making quilts, and they also love making quilts to give away." Throughout the year, the studio creates quilt tops for the annual three-day Great Wisconsin Quilt Show.

During the event, volunteers come together to complete the project. Quilt toppers are pieced together on-site. Post-show, these creations are quilted at the studio, and donations are accepted for fabrics and quilts throughout the year. The finished quilts are then donated to families and individuals in need.

Here are a few ways you can contribute:

  1. Give your time: Dedicate 30 minutes or more to sit, sew, and give. No quilting experience is required, and volunteers are always welcome to lend a hand at the Quilt to Give area during The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show.
  2. Donate fabrics: Bring in bright colored fabrics measuring 1/4 yard or more. Every little bit helps in creating these beautiful quilts.
  3. Donate a completed quilt: If you have a finished, new bed-size quilt to spare, consider donating it to the cause.

Remember, prior quilting experience is not a prerequisite to donate your time. Even simple tasks like cutting and ironing fabric can make a significant impact.

The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show takes place annually in September. This year, it's running daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., September 4-6, at The Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis. To learn more about Quilt to Give, check out nancyzieman.com/blog/quilt-to-give/.

  1. Embracing a fusion of fashion and lifestyle, you can donate bright colored fabrics measuring 1/4 yard or more to contribute to the creation of quilts that provide warmth and comfort to those in need through the Quilt to Give project.
  2. In addition to home and garden tasks, you can give your time by dedicating 30 minutes or more to join various volunteers at the Quilt to Give area during The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show and help create a difference in the lives of families and individuals in need.
