In July 2025, Magdeburg Zoo in Germany will mark its 75th anniversary with a week-long celebration filled with activities, educational programs, and a special focus on endangered species conservation.

The highlight of the anniversary celebration will be a ceremonial act on Monday, July 2025. The event will see the attendance of honorary guests, eyewitnesses, and representatives from business and politics. This grand occasion will also mark the beginning of a festive week at the zoo.

During this week, Magdeburg Zoo will offer additional activities and actions for children. As a special treat, children up to 12 years old who have a birthday during this week will receive free zoo admission. Moreover, those turning 75 will also receive a complimentary breakfast.

The zoo has recently introduced four Siberian tiger cubs to the public for the first time. Unfortunately, one of the cubs passed away in early June 2025. Despite this loss, the remaining cubs are a testament to the zoo's commitment to preserving endangered species like the Siberian tiger. There are approximately 500 Siberian tigers left in the wild in Russia.

Breeding programs can aid in preserving species like the Siberian tiger, but only if the habitats are suitable. Magdeburg Zoo's focus on conservation extends beyond its grounds, as it houses 10 critically endangered, 20 vulnerable, 23 endangered, and 15 potentially endangered species.

The zoo's director, David Pruß, has been at the helm for one year. Under his leadership, the zoo continues to strive towards its goal of educating visitors about the protection of endangered species in an engaging manner.

In other news, Magdeburg Zoo has welcomed a red panda female named Nami. The six-year-old male red panda, Brian, is expected to join Nami, with hopes of producing offspring.

However, the zoo has faced criticism regarding the keeping of chimpanzees due to unusual behaviour exhibited by the animals. The zoo maintains that there is no evidence of the chimpanzees suffering.

During the anniversary celebration, visitors can expect a focus on home-and-garden lifestyle as part of the festive week at Magdeburg Zoo, where children's activities are also planned. In addition to the educational programs and endangered species conservation, the zoo is also introducing a themed section showcasing eco-friendly home solutions and sustainable living practices.
